Not ‘just’ a de-shed

Here at Gentle Paws by Eve we love a good de-shed.

So what is a de-shed?

Well, some breed of dogs have a smooth coat or a double coat or even a wiry coat. Clipping a coat like this with a blade can mean that the fur grows back differently. A de-shed is a natural way to remove the ‘dander’, undercoat and topcoat.

Using a ferminator tool we would get to work on thinning the coat. This can take up to an hour and longer with larger dogs. A smooth coated dog (a boxer, smooth coated daschund) would still benefit from a de-shed.

As usual, with all of our services there is so much more included!

A de-shed package includes:

  • A nail cut
  • Paw pad trim and application of paw balm
  • Dental cleanse
  • Hygiene clean up
  • Ear pluck and clean
  • Bath using premium vegan shampoo brands
  • Conditioning treatment
  • Coat conditioning spray
  • Blueberry & Oatmeal facial
  • Blast dry to loosen undercoat
  • Fluff dry & Brush out
  • De-shed treatment
  • Trim up
  • Spritz of gorgeous smelling fragrance
  • Photo
  • Goodie bag

Puppy’s first groom (Building trust)

Here at Gentle Paws we pull the stops out for every puppy. It is SO important that their first groom is a positive experience.

It’s both exciting yet daunting for a puppy to be in a new place with a new person whilst experiencing new sounds and smells.

A ‘perfect looking’ finish is probably unachievable on the very first groom as the priority is all about your pup being relaxed and comfortable.

The Gentle Paws Puppy Groom

We start with a play from the toy box and some treats, then it’s on to the grooming table.

Whilst on the table, we will:

  • Slowly introduce the safety harness
  • Familiarise your pup with salon noises
  • Lift feet and touch the face and reward
  • Clip the nails and clean the ears
  • Check paw pads for hair and mud balls

Then it’s on to a nice warm soapy bath using a gentle puppy shampoo

  • Delicate blow dry (do not blast dry at the stage)
  • A gentle comb through
  • If allowed! A light trim up of face, back side, feet, ears and tail
  • Hygiene area clean up
  • Photo, Bandana and Goodie Bag

Please note: Gentle Paws does not usually (unless prescribed by a vet) clip a puppy coat with a clipper blade until after two visits and over 18 weeks old.

Helping anxious dogs

We groom several rescue dogs that require extra special attention. We also help dogs that have been with the family since a puppy but for whatever the reason suffers extreme anxiety at the groomers.

We only have one dog at a time and my peaceful home environment help’s to re-assure the most traumatised dog.

We offer a programme of five grooms to build up trust. The cost is not expensive and the session will last no longer than an hour and a half.  You can book one session at a time you don’t have to book them all at once.

During this time we will work hard to de-sensitise as much as possible, similar to that of a puppy but with kit cloves!

With rescue dogs we don’t know there past so we are respectful yet encouraging. A one to one session at Gentle Paws costs as little as £20.

Read some of our customer reviews about their nervous visitors and contact me soon to make that appointment.

My Reviews

We took our 2 year old Working Cocker Spaniel to Eve for the first time today. She did a fabulous job, cutting him exactly as we’d asked. He came out smelling wonderful and looking so so smart, and even got a free bandana!! I would absolutely recommend Eve for all your dog grooming needs. Her prices are reasonable, she’s lovely with the dogs, is professional and friendly at the same time, and her response to messages is super quick.

Our Doggy has been for the most beautiful pamper this morning. It was his first ever time going to a dog groomers and he was really anxious when we arrived. Eve and her husband where just so gentle and patient with him and he’s a big dog too! When we left we could just feel he was in good hands.
He has had so much done and Eve sent us pictures and videos too! we loved watching him have such a brilliant time. He looks fabulous!
We will be back again for sure next month.
Thank you so much Gentle Paws by Eve! You are incredible!

I was a little worried about whether my large long-haired GSD , who was a rescue would behave. Eve was great with him from the word go, putting us both at ease. He settled and really enjoyed it. Eve’s husband was also brilliant at bringing in water and cooking sausages for Teddy to keep him sweet. The results after 3 hours of hard work were amazing. Teddy lived up to his name and was a lovely bundle of soft fluff just like a Teddy bear.
Thank you so much for your care.

Eve was great, and took a lot of time and care to get Nora looking back to her old self. We’ve struggled to find a groomer that is as thorough as Eve, as we’ve quite often found other places don’t look after Noras ears or nails. Really glad we’ve found somewhere we’re happy with. Will definitely be back.

Just taken my little cockapoo Meg to see Eve for a puppy pamper.
Was very impressed with the service, salon very clean. Eve was so good with her and she came out more cute and beautiful than before. Definitely recommend Eve to any new Puppy owner. Already booked in for next groom in few weeks..
